This programme is designed for those looking to gain an entry-level role as a web developer. You’ll also gain the practical IT and professional skills needed to succeed in your IT career.
On completion of this programme, graduates will be able to customise front-end web solutions or proceed to further IT related studies. They will also be capable of operating within applicable professional standards and practice, both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

What is Fees Free?You are able to get one year of tertiary study or two years’ training up to the value of $12,000 fees-free. The equivalent of one year’s full-time study fees-free at an institute of technology, polytechnic, private training establishment, universe or wānanga. Up to 24 months of an apprenticeship or training fees-free with an employer or industry training organisation.

Can I Study Part-Time?Yes, you can, however, part-time study is recommended only for the Level 4 IT Essentials programme. Part-time study is not available for the Level 4 Digital Media and Design programme. Generally, students in full-time study will study for 2 semesters, or 6 months, and must complete 2 papers per semester. Part-time students, however, will study 4 semesters, or 12 months, but will only need to complete 1 paper per semester. Choosing to study part-time on a programme that, for full-time study would last more than 1 year, is not recommended.

What is the required age of study?The required age differs from programme to programme. -Tech Academy is for high school students in years 12 and 13. -Hangarau Akoranga is for 15-24 year olds, particularly those who are not in education, training, or employment. -Level 4 & 5 certificate and diploma programmes, domestic students must turn 17 within their first year of study, while international students must turn 18 within their first year of study.

Is Learner Me NZQA Accredited?Yes, Learner Me is a NZQA Accredited organisation.

Where can I park?The parks outside Learner Me in New Plymouth are for Proformac staff and customers only. For either campus in New Plymouth or Hāwera, there are free parks on the surrounding roads near the campus. PROGRAMME STRUCTUREThe Level 4 NZ Certificate in IT Essentials is a 60-credit programme, consisting of four x 15 credit course. This is a six-month programme (18 weeks excluding 2 weeks study breaks), intended to educate students on the basics of ICT.

Apply knowledge of database design, development, queries and management, to support organisational information systems requirements Apply knowledge and concepts of business analysis, user experience and interface design, to create interactive digital media. Apply knowledge of programming fundamentals, mathematical and logical concepts that underpin computational thinking, and concepts of software development to write code and create simple applications. Apply industry relevant project management and planning tools and methodologies to meet the requirements of specified briefs. Apply appropriate professional and ethical principles and practices to comply with essential legal and organisational requirements in a range of contexts within the IT industry. COURSE OUTLINEThis programme is a great place to start learning about the IT industry. It has a practical, hands-on focus which will provide you with the transferable skills and knowledge to be employed in a range of entry-level support roles in an organisation. Successful completion of the Level 4 NZ Certificate in IT Essentials also provides automatic entry into the Information Technology programmes at Level 5 programme.

Programme Aim and PurposeThe aim of this Programme is to assist students develop core digital web development skills, knowledge and application that provides a foundation for employment or further study. It aims to introduce students to the skills, work and approaches used in industry and enable students to make informed study/career pathway decisions. This qualification will equip students with intermediate level transferable digital skills which will assist them obtain entry level positions or to further their professional development in a range of industries / contexts. The key purpose of the qualification is to provide New Zealand organisations and communities with graduates who have intermediate level computer user skills and who can be employed in a range of entry level roles. Graduates will be capable of using a range of common digital tools and technologies to an intermediate level to produce and process information, and operate effectively with skills that will meet standard professional conventions and be internationally relevant. This qualification may build on existing skills that can be used to recognise the achievement of relevant knowledge and skills by those already employed. This qualification can complement other qualifications in specific industries.

Programme Learning / Career PathwaysThis Course provides an education pathway from Level 1 & 2 NCEA and foundation skills Courses. Graduates can be employed in a range of entry-level roles or proceed to further study. The Course provides a pathway in to a range of higher-level qualifications and graduates may progress to further study in a variety of areas at Level 3 or above, such as the NZ Certificate in Computing Level 3 (Intermediate User), the NZ Certificate in Computing Level 4 (Advanced User), the NZ Diploma in Information Systems (Level 5) or a more specialised qualification such as the NZ Diploma in Web Development and Design (Level 5).

Programme Learning OutcomesBy the end of this Course students will be able to: i. Use a wide range of features, functions and settings of digital devices, software and techniques to search, access, create, combine, manipulate, store and share data, and explore current and emerging trends in the use of digital tools. ii. Investigate, plan, consult, design and develop integrated solutions to meet the requirements of a specified brief. iii. Identify risks and consistently apply appropriate ethics and practices when using digital tools and digitally stored and transmitted information to securely and legally operate in a digital environment. iv. Collaborate and communicate effectively with others in a range of formal and informal digital environments, using appropriate communication principles, etiquette and tools. v. Manage own learning and work effectively in a digital context. vi. Use problem solving techniques to trouble-shoot, fix or escalate a range of common hardware and software problems be selecting from known solutions.

Admission and Entry RequirementsThis is an open entry Programme with no mandatory academic qualification prerequisites. However, students must be at least 16 years old (at the date of admission), demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of successfully completing the Course and have sufficient literacy and English language proficiency. Students are required to attend an interview before being accepted. Prospective learners may also be requested to provide evidence of their current level of knowledge and skills and their ability to successfully undertake the Course with a reasonable likelihood of success. Students may be required to complete a pre-enrolment activity to demonstrate their capability. If necessary, students will be given the opportunity to complete the Learner Me Computer Fundamentals Course (Level 2, 8 Credits) prior to enrolment in this Course.
